INTRODUCTION:
Nepal being a landlocked country could take the benefit of information communication technology (ICT) as an enabling tool to reduce poverty and provide education in this flat world, the level of playing fieldhas become so flat that an individual can compete with a multinational company. It is the the time to grab this opportunity to uplift our socio-economic standing.
Potentical development in the ICT makes a distinct impact on the nation. Nepal has already entered in the e-era which needs strategic support and impetus from various sectors. A number of sectors that need fostering are e-commerce, e-governance, e-medicine, e-services, e-learning, e-rupees, e-citizen and others. We have to save time, money and effort which can be utilized for the development of the nation in the present stage of transition to build a peaceful Nepal. Fast processing mechanism, one door payment system, distancelearning, e-business help transparent administration and economic development of people. We should not hesitate to say that we are in the emerging state of e-era. Potential support,technical advice and plan for strengthening the financial structure are fundamental necesities for a succesful new Nepal.
In this regard Computer Association of Nepal is organizing Information Technology Conference "Building e-Nepal for socio-economic development" from 10 to 12 January 2007 in Kathmandu. The purpose of this conference is to map and describe the significance of information and communication technology in terms of creating an engine of growth for socio-economic development of Nepal. One aspect of the conference focuses on the ICT sector itself as a possible engine of growth for Nepal. Other aspect is the use of ICT to stimulate other sectors which could be transformed as an engine of growth for Nepal.

"Building e-Nepal for socio-economic development" presents a dynamic, integrated three days of not-to-be-missed Information and Communication Technology (ICT) experiences at the foothills of the Himalayas. This international conference is being organized by Computer Association of Nepal (CAN) and will take place on 10, 11 and 12 January 2007, International Convention Center (BICC), Kathmandu, NEPAL.
The conference will present you with a holistic mix of the big picture, finer details, technical depth, and corporate level perspectives on various facets of the information and communication technology. Our distinguished panel of keynote speakers will bring a diverse set of insights on different advancements on ICT initiatives around the world.
The two-day conference and one-day tutorial comprise of, intense vertical tracks, in-depth technology, business, management and governance-focused sessions related to the information and communication technology. There will be an open forum during the quick-hit panels to provide an opportunity for discussion between the speakers and participants. The 7 tracks of the conference aim to blend global trends with local market realities and perspectives. The last track of the conference is only for the corporate presentations. These tracks will be covered in two days of the conference from 10 th to 12th January 2007. The last day of the conference, 12th January 2007, is reserved for the tutorials.
In this context, CAN would like to request call for papers on the use of ICT in supporting development initiatives in underdeveloped settings with scarce resources. The conference intends to discuss ways to develop ICT as an industry especially in underdeveloped settings and will explore various issues relating to creating and maintaining conducive environment for the development of sustainable ICT industries.
